Horniman Museum
A brilliantly eccentric free family day out in south London. The Natural History Gallery (with the famous overstuffed walrus) is reopening in 2026 after refurbishment. The 16-acre gardens are free and have a small animal walk, bandstand and Sunday market. Terms: Free entry to the museum and gardens for adults and children. The Aquarium and Butterfly House charge entry — adult Aquarium ticket from £5, Butterfly House from £8 (under-3s free, family tickets available).
