The best pumpkin patch for your family depends on whether you want a quick, low-cost picking trip or a full day with rides, animals and play. We compared 12 options across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland using official 2026 dates, entry prices, pumpkin costs and included activities.

Prices below are for entry, not a guaranteed total spend. Most patches charge separately for pumpkins, food and optional activities. Where a venue sells a family or car ticket, we show that. Otherwise, we give the per-person price because children's ages and family sizes vary.

Details were checked by FamilySave on 4 October 2026. Pumpkin crops, weather and ticket availability can change quickly, so check the official booking page before travelling.

FamilySave Picks

FamilySave Pick: Best Free Entry

Rougham Estate, Suffolk

Why we picked it: Admission and parking are free, so you only need to pay for the pumpkins and any optional food or activities. There are also free torchlight evenings and bookable SEN-friendly sessions.

Best for: Families who want to keep the fixed cost as low as possible.

Watch out for: The free entry does not include a pumpkin. The field can be muddy and the special SEN sessions require booking.

Booking: Rougham Estate

FamilySave Pick: Best Family Ticket

Brocksbushes, Northumberland

Why we picked it: An advance family ticket costs £12 for up to five people. The patch adds photo spots, a bale area and seasonal entertainment, with other activities available on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Best for: Families of four or five who want activities without paying a large admission charge.

Watch out for: Pumpkins cost £1 to £10 and are extra. The Play Barn is not included, and dogs are accepted only on named dog-friendly dates.

Booking: Brocksbushes

FamilySave Pick: Best Included Activities

Forage Farm, Vale of Glamorgan

Why we picked it: One £12 or £15 daytime car ticket covers up to five people and includes a tractor-trailer ride, maize maze, animals, hay-bale play and photo areas.

Best for: Families who want more than a walk through a field but still prefer one clear entry price.

Watch out for: Pumpkins, food, pony rides, fairground games and other extras cost more. The ticket price also has a booking fee.

Booking: Forage Farm

FamilySave Pick: Best Flexible Ticket

Lower Drayton Farm, Staffordshire

Why we picked it: You can book entry only or choose a package that includes one pumpkin, making it easier to control the total before you arrive.

Best for: Families who want to pick, carve and take photos without paying for the separate PLAY@ attraction.

Watch out for: Prices are £2 higher on the gate than online. PLAY@ is not included in the pumpkin tickets.

Booking: Lower Drayton Farm

FamilySave Pick: Best London Option

Hobbledown Heath, Hounslow

Why we picked it: The dedicated patch ticket starts at £7 and includes seasonal games, photo points, marshmallow toasting and live entertainment. Families can upgrade to combine the patch with the adventure park.

Best for: London families who want a pumpkin experience without a long drive into the countryside.

Watch out for: Pumpkins and the £2.75 booking fee are extra. A patch-only ticket does not include the adventure park.

Booking: Hobbledown Heath

FamilySave Pick: Best for SEN Sessions

Pumpkin Village, Essex

Why we picked it: Dedicated SEN sessions on 4 and 9 October have limited capacity for a calmer visit. The site also has an accessible toilet, baby-changing facilities and free parking.

Best for: Families who want organised activities and a quieter-session option near Chelmsford.

Watch out for: It is a seasonal attraction rather than a working pick-your-own farm. Pumpkins cost extra, and Pumpkin Village admission does not include Marsh Farm.

How to Spend Less at a Pumpkin Patch

Compare the whole cost, not just admission

A free or cheap entry ticket may not include a pumpkin. Add the likely pumpkin price, booking fee, parking and any must-do activities before comparing two venues.

Look for car and family tickets

Arnprior, Brocksbushes and Forage Farm can be particularly useful for larger households because one ticket may cover a car or a group of up to five. Check the maximum number of people and vehicle rules before paying.

Book online when the saving is clear

Lower Drayton charges £2 more per person on the gate, while Priory Farm and Brocksbushes also have higher door prices. Booking ahead can save money as well as securing a popular time.

Decide on your pumpkin budget first

Give children a clear size or spending limit before taking a wheelbarrow. A field full of unusual pumpkins makes it very easy to choose more than you planned.

Bring the right kit

Wellies, waterproofs, spare socks and a bag for muddy clothes can prevent an unplanned shop stop. A strong carrier or old towel for the car is useful for the pumpkins.

Pumpkin Patch FAQs

Do pumpkin patch tickets include a pumpkin?

Usually not. Lower Drayton sells specific packages that include one pumpkin, and Arnprior lets visitors redeem £5 of the car ticket against pumpkins. Most other patches in this guide charge by size or weight after you pick.

Do I need to book pumpkin picking in advance?

For most paid patches, yes. Some venues accept walk-ins only if space remains, while Yorkshire Pumpkins requires prebooking. Rougham is the main exception in this guide for standard daytime visits, although its SEN-friendly sessions must be booked.

When is the best time to visit a pumpkin patch?

Early October usually offers the widest crop choice, while half term has more weekday sessions and Halloween atmosphere. The trade-off is that popular weekend slots can sell out. Check the farm's crop and weather update before a long journey.

What should children wear for pumpkin picking?

Choose wellies or old boots and clothes that can get muddy. Bring waterproof layers, spare socks and gloves for colder evening sessions. Fields may remain wet even after a dry morning.

Are pumpkin patches suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs?

Access varies because many patches are working fields. Some have gravel or temporary paths, but mud, ruts and slopes can still be difficult. Read the venue's accessibility information and contact it directly if you need firm paths, accessible parking or an essential companion ticket.

Can we take a dog pumpkin picking?

Only at some patches. Arnprior welcomes dogs on leads, Brocksbushes has four specific dog days, and Hobbledown sells dog add-ons on selected dates. Never assume dogs are allowed, and check the official rules before travelling.
