GoHenry vs Monzo Under 16s

Monzo avoids a subscription but requires a parent Monzo account. GoHenry Everyday charges per child and adds chores and introductory learning activities without requiring a particular parent bank. Decide whether you will use those paid tools.

GoHenry is not a bank. Its terms describe different arrangements for card funds, top-up e-money and separate savings products; check the applicable terms rather than assuming bank deposit protection.

Other costs: Everyday includes one free top-up a month; additional top-ups cost 50p. Optional card designs cost extra.

One-month trial, then automatic paid renewal

Who it suits and what to check

May suit: Parents who will regularly use chores and learning activities.

Consider: Consider which learning tools your plan includes, and the top-up fees. Plus costs more; Max has family pricing.

Plus is £5.99/month per child; Max is £9.99/month for up to four children. These are different feature bundles.

No interest rate quoted: the pricing page contains mixed plan labels.

Which suits which family?

Lowest ongoing subscription cost: Monzo. Parent controls: both have them; Monzo publishes daily limits and switches for cash and online payments. Education and chores: compare GoHenry’s actual plan entitlements, because its Everyday and Plus learning content differ.

Already bank with Monzo? Its parent app may make money management simpler. Prefer to keep your existing bank? GoHenry does not require you to open a current account at a particular provider.

Check ownership and the next birthday

Monzo Under 16s is owned by the parent, including the balance. Its new-account age range ends at 15. GoHenry’s published age range extends further; check opening eligibility and transition terms for an older teenager.

Both offer ways to organise money, but a savings goal is not the same as a separate interest-bearing account. Check the terms of any separate savings product.

Questions parents ask

Can I use Monzo Under 16s without a Monzo account?

No. The parent or legal guardian needs a Monzo current account to open and manage the Under 16s account.

Does GoHenry Everyday include all Money Missions?

The provider pricing distinguishes introductory missions on Everyday from the wider library on Plus and Max. Confirm the selected plan’s current entitlements before paying.
